Completing The Red Scarf Project
We want to celebrate the generosity of all who are participating in the
Red Scarf Project. If you still have a scarf, bring it in. All who have
brought scarves already, come in for a little celebration. Prize
drawings for those who have contributed, refreshments and stitching!
Can Mark REALLY finish an "8 Hour Baby Blanket" in 8 hours??"
Tuesday, December 18th, from 12:00 - 8:00 PM
Please come by and support this fundraiser
The gauntlet has been thrown! Mark is calling out his knitting
friends to come down and accept the challenge of seeing who can get to
the finish line first!
Casting on will begin at High Noon for a blanket from Plymouth's
pattern book "8 hour Baby Blankets."
To make things interesting, really
put the pressure on and support some of our favorite charities, pledges
will be accepted to benefit United Food Bank and Toys for Tots. Make
a pledge of any amount based on what you think he'll get done, then pay
the percentage that he finishes. So, for example: if you pledge $20 or
10 cans or 2 toys and he only completes half of the project, you donate
$10 or 5 cans or 1 toy. Of course Mark believes that you all will pay up
in full!
Not busy that day? Come in and knit with Mark. Race him to the finish! If you finish a blanket before him, you will get a fabulous prize! We'll be having a potluck. Bring a dish and come join in the fun, (since no one can knit for 8 hours and not eat).
Holiday Greetings!

Foster Care for Success Program.
Children that go through the foster care
system often face challenges getting the education they need to lead
happy and productive lives. The Foster Care for Success program gives
scholarships to further the education of kids who would not have the
money to continue their education. In 2005 the Foster Care for Success
program began sending the kids that were attending college or vocational
schools a Valentine's Day care package. These kids often don't have
family or parents who would send care packages to them. So, to show
that someone cares - packages are sent with treats including a red hand
knitted or crocheted scarf. Bring your scarves to us by December 10th.

Please Help! Red Scarf Project
Please Help!
The Fiber Factory and One Planet Yarn and Fiber this holiday season is supporting an organization called the Orphan Foundation of America The Red Scarf Project http://www.fc2success.org/programs/red-scarf-project-and-book-club/ -
Foster Care for Success Program. Children that go through the foster
care system often face challenges getting the education they need to
lead happy and productive lives. The Foster Care for Success program
gives scholarships to further the education of kids who would not have

don't have family or parents who would send care packages to them. So,
to show that someone cares - packages are sent with treats including a
red hand knitted or crocheted scarf. You will find all the information
about how to help here - Please Help! Red Scarves for Charity The Fiber Factory will be a collection center for knitters and friends. Bring your scarves to us by December 10th.
Why
mail them to me? Because The Fiber Factory and OPYF are runnng a contest! Most scarves
donated, best design, etc. Everyone who knits a scarf will receive a
surprise, so please include your contact information.
Contest rules-
It has been a while since Karen of OPYF has run a contest, so here are the details-we need help with the Red Scarf Project. To enter the contest, go to the blog and put your name in as a participant, then, join the One Planet Knitters Ravelry forum for the Red Scarf Project and share your works in progress and finished scarves. The guidelines for the scarves are on Karen's Ravelry link. We have a stash of yarns, magazines, books and other surprises to give away to anyone that participates and sends us a scarf. If you want to just encourage us along, we have a surprise prize for that too. We will slowly get a chance to post some of the swag as we move along on the Ravelry page. We need to start our scarves too! Finished scarves due here by December 10, 2012. That is when the contest ends too. Good Luck and thanks for your help.

The Fiber Factory - Lori's Retirement Party!
Last Saturday was Lori's last day at the Fiber Factory. We will really miss her here. She added so much to the shop that words can not express how we feel about this. Here are some pictures from the party. Lori, may the sun always be on your face and the wind always be at your back.

Fall Class Schedule Posted
Fall always brings changes, and there are some changes coming to The Fiber Factory. Su Walker is heading to the Northwest were the sun rarely shines. She has, however, provided us with a quite capable successor. Please welcome Pam Pollack to our teaching staff.
Speaking of our delightful teaching staff, they have provided a plethora of classes this fall. We implore you to take a little side trip to www.fiberfactory.com as it is well worth it. You can download or print a PDF file from the the main page if you are so inclined. Many of the classes are geared toward small projects, excellent for gift giving. If a class interests you and is not offered at a time convenient to your schedule, by all means, ask us if we can offer it again for you and a friend to take together.
(Insert heavy sigh here…) One of the less welcome changes coming is the announced retirement of our beloved Lori Smith. (Insert collective gasp here!) Although we threatened to lock the doors and not let her leave, we understand her desire to stay home and fulfill her own creative desires; including weaving the large rug her husband has been patiently waiting for the past 11 years while she has been here. Of course there will be a party! Mark your calendar for the afternoon of September 15th. If you have ever made something in a class Lori taught, you MUST bring it to share. It would be awesome to see the impact that we know she has made on us all.

New Yarns, Trunk Shows, a Dye Day and Stuff!
We will post information as they are scheduled and arrive via social media, email and our web page. Check the web page often for specials and activities. They always show up there first!
In case you we wondering, the first phase of Light Rail construction has been quite painless, as long as you stay off of Mesa Drive. Activity will be minimal through the fall and winter months. Remember that you can always access our parking lot via First Street to Robson, turn west down the alley and park all day. Those signs that say restricted parking, well the signs are there to keep others out so you have a space to park!
Regards,
Susan, Terri and the Fiber Factory Gang
